Episode 10: AA or Nay?
This week, the girls talk about feelings and opinions on AA.
Although it’s not necessarily their preferred method of managing sobriety, it is a highly powerful tool.
Kate talks about her weird experiences not feeling “alcoholic enough” to be at an AA meeting and not meeting friends like she thought she would. She discusses how AA feels very cutthroat, and can be dangerous to the vulnerable, especially when leadership strays from the rules.
Jes discusses feeling like an outsider at meetings, and feeling reserved about the language surrounding a “higher power”. Also, she talks about how court-ordered recovery seems wrong.
Both are grateful for the program as it helps so many others get sober, but think it could be modernized to meet today’s age.
