Episode 23: #seltzersquadpets

Pets have helped us heal our souls… seriously.

For Jes, Regina George (her frenchie) helped her create new routines and learn discipline. She highly recommends pet ownership because there are a lot of unwanted animals in the world with love to give. “They are fucking cute, and they don’t talk back.”

She owns two Frenchies, two Sphyinx cats, and one Hairless Chinese Crested dog that she shares with her ex.
In this episode she gets into the story of how she got drunk and bought two dogs, and how shitty of a dog mom she was. Even the health department put a notice on her apartment because it smelled like shit.

However, owning pets has helped her so much in sobriety.
They are all so damn cute, amirite.

As for me, I always thought I’d be a lone drunk swinger lady with a trusty dog. I just wanted someone to keep me company, and someone to love me.
I’d had a bad experience previously with my asshole ex-boyfriend cheating on me, dumping me, and giving my kittens away. I was super scared about ever caring for a pet again, because I felt like a garbage person because I didn’t even have my own shit together enough to take care of kittens.

Fast forward to many years later, I’ve almost adopted a dog at least 20 times, but as we all know, I don’t like being cold… so walking a dog at 4am in February sounds like a real life ruiner.
My husband on the other hand, really wanted a cat. So in true Kate fashion, we adopted 3 kittens because I can’t ever do anything without going balls to the wall. My stupid cats are the love of my life and have 100% contributed to my sobriety.
