Episode 27: Squad Questions Pt. 2
What’s the best part of sobriety? Basically, for Jes and I, everything is the best part of sobriety. Although there are tough moments, being sober offers so much more. More money, more time, and more respect for yourself.
How did you know when it was time to quit drinking? You know when you know. Which feels really abstract… and you might have to be ready more than once. Ie…relapse. But in all honesty, our lives while drinking had become unmanageable, and one day (not on the same day) we were so depressed and exhausted that something had to change.
Sober means one thing, agree or not agree? Jes and I do NOT agree. For us, the term sober is personal.
You can call yourself whatever you want.
How did Jes and I meet? At the bar we both worked at……a million years ago.
What’s your favorite meal? For Jes, it’s Taco Bell, mac-n-cheese, ice cream, and french fries. For me, bagels, cake, and brownies.
How long did it take to notice physical changes after getting sober? For both Jes and I it took a minute to see the positive affects, Kate gained weight in the beginning, but saw more physical affects after quitting smoking.
Sober date night ideas? Movies and dinner, bowling, and amusement parks. Spas could be cool if you’re comfortable with the person. Kate goes hiking and camping, visits museums etc.
How did you get through a sober vacation? Make sure to rent your own car, rent your own hotel room, and smoked a million cigarettes. Staying in Airbnb’s because they don’t have minibars. Or, you could cancel altogether.
Where do we live? Jersey City! - Jes is from Long Island NY, and Kate is from North Dakota.
How do you keep growing and changing in a sustainable way? We both have Nance, our therapist, and honestly, growth isn’t always sustainable. I look for pain and resistance, and then dig a little deeper into “why” and then correcting the behavior. Identifying patterns is key.
How did we tell people close to us that we quit drinking? For Jes, she told close friends and family, and it wasn’t weird because she’d quit a thousand time.
How sober are we? Jes has 200+ days and I have over 3 years.
Where did you get the sauna sleeping bag? - Higher Dose
Enjoy❤️
